The Everyday Reality of Fall Risk
80%
of adults over 80 get up at least once during the night
1 in 4
falls among older adults happen after dark
2x
higher fracture risk for those who get up more than once a night
Falls are one of the leading causes of hospitalization and loss of independence for people living with Alzheimer's or other neurocognitive impairments. Much of that risk shows up in ordinary moments, such as a dim hallway or an unfamiliar step in low light. Those are the moments we set out to support with the Guide Light & Smart Sensors.

Existing Solutions Are Not Adapted for People Living with Cognitive Impairment
Most existing tools for fall prevention weren't designed with the realities of older adults living with Alzheimer’s and dementia, and those who care for them, in mind.
Professional sensors are complex to install and easily removed. Fixed alert buttons are forgotten. Pendants and watches feel stigmatizing.
Our Guide Light and Smart Sensors Are Built to Support Autonomy and Dignity

1. Prevention
A soft light path activates automatically after dark, guiding the walk from bed to bathroom. The guide light turns on by itself, so getting up at night doesn't require searching for a switch or pressing a button.
2. Detection
Discreet sensors are designed to notice falls, inactivity, extreme temperatures, and changes in voice and speech patterns, so caregivers can stay gently informed without needing to check in constantly.
3. Intervention
Built-in microphone and speakers allow for immediate two-way remote assistance with a caregiver or healthcare professional, so help is never too far away.

What is the Idem Guide Light & Smart Sensors?
It's an upcoming connected device from Idem that combines a soft, automatic light path with discreet sensors, designed to support nighttime safety and independence for people living with Alzheimer's or other neurocognitive impairments.
Does the Guide Light & Smart Sensors detect falls?
The Guide Light & Smart Sensors are designed first and foremost to sense movement and presence, helping light the way and keep caregivers gently informed. We're continuing to explore additional capabilities, including around fall and distress detection, and we'll share more as those features are confirmed.
When will it be available?
The Guide Light & Smart Sensors is coming early 2027. Sign up above to be the first to know as we get closer to launch.
Will it work with the Idem Smart Clock?
Yes. The Guide Light & Smart Sensors is designed to be paired with the Smart Clock as part of Idem’s ecosystem of cognitive aids.
Is this a surveillance device?
No. The Guide Light and Smart Sensors were designed around a simple principle: support autonomy and dignity, not monitoring. It's meant to fade into the background of daily life instead of surveilling.
How is this different from a regular motion-sensor night light?
Off-the-shelf night lights react to movement, but weren't built with cognitive impairment in mind. The Guide Light and Smart Sensors are part of a connected ecosystem, designed specifically to support people living with Alzheimer's and dementia and the caregivers looking out for them.
